Carlito, as people affectionately call him in Greece, might sounds little bit exotic, but for us it’s just another Carlos among millions, lol!
Believe it or not, our founder’s full name is Carlos Eduardo Álvarez Rodríguez, and his origins are Costa Rican-Colombian.

1, Carlos, What?
Like almost all the foreigners who live in here the answer is ”LOVE”
First I fell in love with my Greek wife (Love you Nancy), then with my Greek daughters and then little by little I fell in love with a place full of graffiti, people with humongous hearts, good food, and of course good wines

2, If you are half Costa Rican and half Colombian, what are you doing in Greece?
The piñata is something that brings back memories of our childhood.
A birthday with a piñata is a party full of joy, color, fun and surprises, since we never know what will come out from inside of it.
Based on the above, as we say in Mexico “the real truth is” that we named it “La piñata” not only for color and joy, but rather because we did not know what would come out of making this project a reality.

3, La Piñata? Why this name?
From the age of 15, I had the opportunity to travel to Mexico, Central and South America and experience the textures and flavors of Latinamerican food.
Years later I returned to my country to finish my studies, but I knew that I had to keep walking.
Thank God, a door opened for me to travel to the United States, where I had the opportunity to learn the true passion of cooking.
More than 20 years of endless working hours, between corporate jobs and simultaneosly bar and restaurants shifts with no days off or holidays, just for the sole purpose of achieving the necessary level to work in world-wide finance companies, and also top restaurants in places like New York, Connecticut, Las Vegas, New Orleans.
So after all that time traveling and learning the good stuff, this is how we decided to bring La Piñata to life.
A place where we could finally find the peace we were looking for, through good food and great friends.
Once again, Thank you dear God!
